On Point For College is located in the Proctor Library, Room M257I for all students. OnPoint is an excellent resource and are available to help any students and parents with college-related questions, take students on college tours, provide guidance on the college application process, financial aid and more.

Mohawk Valley Community College


Mohawk Valley Community College staff from Admissions, Office of Accessibility Resources (OAR), Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Dual Credit, Financial Aid and more are  located in C131 for all students to receive support in the college process. Staff are available on a rotating basis, Monday through Friday from 10 am to 2 pm. Please check with your school counselor for each department schedule.

College Applications

APPLYING ONLINE: 

Each college will require a completed application form. Many institutions accept the Common Application, a standard application form that you complete one time and then submit to multiple colleges and universities of your choice. 

  • Common Application: www.commonapp.org
  • CREATE your Common App Account
  • Choose FIRST YEAR STUDENT 
    • Be sure to use your PERSONAL email and one that is appropriate and one you check regularly! 
    • Use your OFFICIAL name as it appears on legal documents 
    • WRITE DOWN your username and password
  • Once your account is created you will see 5 TABS: 
    • Dashboard, My Colleges, Common App, College Search & Financial Resources
  • You can fill out the application in any order that you like
    • Once you have completed a section, you will see a GREEN checkmark
  • You MUST add your school counselor
  • Teacher Recommenders: Add the teachers you want to write you a Letter of Recommendation

A majority of New York State colleges subscribe to Common App, but an exclusive State University of New York (SUNY) application is also available at:

  • Click APPLY
  • CREATE an ACCOUNT
    • Be sure to use your PERSONAL email and one that is appropriate and one you check regularly! 
    • Use your OFFICIAL name as it appears on legal documents 
    • WRITE DOWN your username and password
  • You MUST add your school counselor
  • You can fill out the application in any order that you like
    • Once you have completed a section, the section will turn GREEN
  • Notify your counselor of the teacher(s) you select to write you letters of recommendation

NOTE: most SUNY community colleges have a FREE online application available directly through their school website. Do NOT pay to apply through the suny.edu site if there is a free application.
